“Asterism” draws inspiration from the recognizable patterns of stars that humans have observed in the night sky for thousands of years. These celestial groupings once guided navigation, inspired stories, and shaped our understanding of the universe. This artwork is a contemporary interpretation of those luminous constellations.
The sculpture is composed of twelve thick stainless-steel plates, each uniquely shaped by hand-hammering and bending to create subtle curves, resembling independent yet interconnected stars across the sky. At the center of each curved plate sits a polished stainless-steel sphere, symbolizing the radiant core of each celestial body.
The “star plates” are interlinked through solid stainless-steel round rods, arranged in an intersecting pattern reminiscent of star trails or cosmic pathways. Along these connecting routes lie stainless-steel cubes, representing spatial coordinates and the underlying order of the cosmos, adding dimensional rhythm and structural depth.
Finished with mirror polishing and titanium-gold electroplating, the artwork captures and reflects light across every surface—curves, spheres, and cubes—creating a shimmering effect akin to frozen starlight.
“Asterism” embodies the balance between order and chaos, connection and isolation, microcosm and vastness. It is a tactile constellation—an artistic map of the universe rendered in metal.
